Blurry Telescopes and the Stories We Tell Ourselves
In 1990, the United States launched something bold and brilliant into space — the Hubble Space Telescope, named for astronomer Edwin Hubble. Carried into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery , it was designed to be our eye in the sky, capturing jaw-dropping images of galaxies, nebulae, and the glittering secrets of the cosmos. But when Hubble opened that enormous, high-tech eye and began sending back photos, something was… off. The images were blurry — not just a little f

Thermostat or the Thermometer
You can be the Thermostat or the Thermometer Where did I first hear that? Maybe it was the lacrosse coach who was trying to put the truck driver’s son on the right track. Rand Corporation recently coined a phrase. They call their new series, “ Truth Decay —the diminishing role that facts, data, and analysis pla

Christianity: A Thinking Man’s Faith
This week I got a chance to listen to two of my favorite actors talk about Race. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman were interviewed, and I appreciated what both men said. But Morgan Freeman poked me a little bit with a throwaway comment that I would like to address. He said (paraphrased), “Race is kinda like religion to me. It is a good excuse for not getting there.” I love Morgan Freeman in almost everything he does. Shawshank Redemption, tops! RED, Hilarious! Inv
